Sold at the lower estimate price
In June 2013 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The American Clipper Flying Cloud Cracking Along In An Ocean Breeze by John Bentham-Dinsdale. The result of GBP 2,000.00 (€ 2,334.36) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Bentham-Dinsdale have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work H.M.S. Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793 in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,521.70).
Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793 im März 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.125,00 (€ 9.521,70).
