Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Engagement Between U.S.S. Constitution And H.M.S. Guerriére, 19Th August 1812 by John Bentham-Dinsdale was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in June 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,123.63) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Bentham-Dinsdale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work H.M.S. Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793, which sold at auction in March 2017 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,521.70).

Guerriére, 19Th August 1812 von John Bentham-Dinsdale wurde im Juni 2014 in der Auktion Maritime Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 2.500,00 (€ 3.123,63) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von John Bentham-Dinsdale mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit H.M.S.
