It achieved a price of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,590.05), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 39%. Admittedly, works by John Bentham-Dinsdale have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work H.M.S. Crescent, under the command of Captain James Saumarez, capturing the French frigate Réunion off Cherbourg, 20 October 1793 in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 9,521.70).

Wasp, 18th October, 1812 (both illustrated) von John Bentham-Dinsdale wurde im Mai 2008 in der Auktion Maritime bei Christies in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 1.250,00 (€ 1.590,05) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 39%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Bentham-Dinsdale auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit H.M.S.
