This artwork by John Beer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2004. In the Sporting Art and Dogs auction, the work Pretty Polly wins the Jockey Club Cup, Newmarket, 1905 sold for GBP 3,943.50 (€ 5,869.11) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Beer; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Miss Dollar Wins, Royal Handicap, Sandown Park; Freemason Wins, Sandown Park; Leaving the Paddock, Sandown Park; Parade, Sandown Park sold at auction in May 2000 with the realized price of GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,369.93).
