A top price for Joel-Peter Witkin - as previously expected
In April 2000 Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work The Kiss by Joel-Peter Witkin. The price achieved of USD 35,250.00 (€ 38,783.14) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Kiss is the most expensive artwork by Joel-Peter Witkin that we have observed at auctions so far.
Ein Spitzenpreis mit Ansage
Im April 2000 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Kiss von Joel-Peter Witkin zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 35.250,00 (€ 38.783,14) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 30.000,00 – 40.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist The Kiss das teuerste Kunstwerk von Joel-Peter Witkin, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
