The work Central X by Joan Semmel was sold in the Post-War and Contemporary Art Afternoon Session auction at Christies in New York in May 2019. It achieved a price of USD 52,500.00 (€ 47,089.43), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 50%. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joan Semmel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work without title, which sold at auction in March 2018 for USD 187,500.00 (€ 152,191.56).

Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 52.500,00 (€ 47.089,43) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 50%. Für andere Arbeiten von Joan Semmel mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit ohne Titel beobachtet, die im März 2018 für USD 187.500,00 (€ 152.191,56) versteigert wurde.
