In September 2020 Bonhams in Los Angeles held the auction Post-War & Contemporary Art X Made in California, which included the work Mary Julia #38, 1976 by Joan Brown. The »bidding war« ended at USD 31,325.00 (€ 26,732.38), 74% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Joan Brown - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Untitled (Portrait of Jay de Feo), which sold at auction in November 2005 for USD 78,000.00 (€ 66,157.76).

Im September 2020 führte Bonhams in Los Angeles die Auktion Post-War & Contemporary Art X Made in California durch, in der auch die Arbeit Mary Julia #38, 1976 von Joan Brown zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 31.325,00 (€ 26.732,38) und damit 74% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Joan Brown mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Untitled (Portrait of Jay de Feo) beobachtet, die im November 2005 für USD 78.000,00 (€ 66.157,76) versteigert wurde.
