In March 2019 Christies in New York held the auction South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art, which included the work Untitled (The Unbearable Lightness of Being) by Jitish Kallat. The »bidding war« ended at USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,664.41), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Jitish Kallat have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Untitled (Eclipse)- 5 in November 2010 with an auction result of HKD 2,780,000.00 (€ 274,673.21).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im März 2019 führte Christies in New York die Auktion South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Untitled (The Unbearable Lightness of Being) von Jitish Kallat zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 62.500,00 (€ 55.664,41) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jitish Kallat auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Untitled (Eclipse)- 5 im November 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 2.780.000,00 (€ 274.673,21).
