Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Virgil Reading From The Aeneid by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres was sold in the 19th Century European Art auction at Christies in New York in April 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 600,000.00 – 1,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 672,500.00 (€ 556,981.94) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait de la comtesse de La Rue, which sold at auction in February 2009 for EUR 2,081,000.00.

Die Arbeit Virgil Reading From The Aeneid von Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres wurde im April 2018 in der Auktion 19th Century European Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 600.000,00 – 1.000.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 672.500,00 (€ 556.981,94) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait de la comtesse de La Rue beobachtet, die im Februar 2009 für EUR 2.081.000,00 versteigert wurde.
