Auction result well in line with expectations
The work ODYSSEY, STUDY OF THE FIGURE FOR THE APOTHEOSIS BY HOMER by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres was sold in the Tableaux Dessins Sculptures 1300-1900 auction at Sothebys in Paris in December 2020. The price achieved of EUR 100,800.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait de la comtesse de La Rue in February 2009 with an auction result of EUR 2,081,000.00.
