Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of A Boy, Traditionally Identified As A Member Of The Courtenay Family, Circa 1770 by James Scouler was auctioned at Sothebys in London in April 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,008.00 (€ 1,159.49). Admittedly, works by James Scouler have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work William Powell (1735/1736-1769), In Fur-Lined Blue Gown, White Shirt With Lace Collar And Cuffs, Seated On A Chair With His Left Arm Resting On The Chair Back, Holding In His Right Hand A Playbill For A Double Bill Of Cymbeline And George Colman The Elder in November 2013 with an auction result of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von James Scouler auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit William Powell (1735/1736-1769), In Fur-Lined Blue Gown, White Shirt With Lace Collar And Cuffs, Seated On A Chair With His Left Arm Resting On The Chair Back, Holding In His Right Hand A Playbill For A Double Bill Of Cymbeline And George Colman The Elder im November 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.750,00 (€ 10.529,45)
