In May 2002 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU, which included the work A young lady, in profile to the left, her right elbow resting on a red-covered table and her hand raised to her face, in blue-lined lace-bordered cream dress, gold-bordered blue sash, cream scarf in her upswept, plaited hair falling to her right shou by James Scouler. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,792.50 (€ 2,807.08), 20% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Scouler - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work William Powell (1735/1736-1769), In Fur-Lined Blue Gown, White Shirt With Lace Collar And Cuffs, Seated On A Chair With His Left Arm Resting On The Chair Back, Holding In His Right Hand A Playbill For A Double Bill Of Cymbeline And George Colman The Elder, which sold at auction in November 2013 for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,529.
