Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Studies of Clyde and other paddle-steamers: Duchess of York; Brighton; Red Gauntlet; Ivanhoe; Columba; and Ben Lomond by James Scott Maxwell was sold in the MARITIME AND NAVAL BATTLES auction at Christies in London in November 2003. The price achieved of GBP 470.00 (€ 674.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Admittedly, works by James Scott Maxwell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,633.92).
