Auction result misses estimated price range
In February 2006 a collector was able to acquire the work The United States corvette Lancaster by James Scott Maxwell for USD 600.00 (€ 503.14). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by James Scott Maxwell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,633.92).
