The work H.M.S. Centurion (illustrated); H.M.S. Devonshire; H.M.S. Juno; H.M.S. Badger; H.M.S. Indomitable; H.M.S. Caesar; H.M.S. Shannon; H.M.S. Seagull; H.M.S. Welland; H.M.S. Agamemnon; H.M.S. Minotaur; H.M.S. Boxer; and H.M.S. Russell by James Scott Maxwell was sold in the British and Continental Pictures and Watercolours auction at Christies in London in January 2006. The price achieved of GBP 336.00 (€ 492.48) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200.00 – 400.00. Admittedly, works by James Scott Maxwell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,633.92).
