Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work H.M.S. Plover; H.M.S. Phaeton; H.M.S. Majestic; And Reserve Squadron At Spithead by James Scott Maxwell was auctioned at Christies in London in June 2005, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 200.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 960.00 (€ 1,422.78). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Scott Maxwell - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King, which sold at auction in July 2007 for GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,633.92).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit H.M.S. Plover; H.M.S. Phaeton; H.M.S.
