In July 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours including Original, which included the work London and Ramsgate steamer Hobken; S.S. Thistle; P.S. Stirling Castle; P.S. Lord Elgin; H.M.S. Surprise; and Spithead, 1886 by James Scott Maxwell. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 501.90 (€ 758.48), 25% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by James Scott Maxwell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 3,120.00 (€ 4,633.92).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2004 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Continental Watercolours including Original durch, in der auch die Arbeit London and Ramsgate steamer Hobken; S.S. Thistle; P.S. Stirling Castle; P.S. Lord Elgin; H.M.S. Surprise; and Spithead, 1886 von James Scott Maxwell zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 501,90 (€ 758,48) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von James Scott Maxwell auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Two albums of watercolours of ship portraits including; The American steamships St Paul and Haverford (one illustrated); and The American yacht Erl King im Juli 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 3.120,00 (€ 4.633,92).
