Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Lady John Chichester, in lace-bordered white dress with short puffed sleeves and sash, brown hair dressed in ringlets; landscape and pillar background by James Leakey was sold in the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction at Christies in London in December 2008. It changed hands for a price of GBP 687.50 (€ 722.08) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00. Admittedly, works by James Leakey have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lieutenant-Colonel W. George Collier, facing right in scarlet coat of the Coldstream Guards, with gold bordered blue collar and facings, gold epaulettes, white cross sash with gilt-metal oval plate, white shirt and black stock, curling light brown ha in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,869.12).
