Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a blue jacket, seated at a table and holding a note in his right hand by James Leakey was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,075.50 (€ 1,088.67). Admittedly, works by James Leakey have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lieutenant-Colonel W. George Collier, facing right in scarlet coat of the Coldstream Guards, with gold bordered blue collar and facings, gold epaulettes, white cross sash with gilt-metal oval plate, white shirt and black stock, curling light brown ha in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,869.12).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a blue jacket, seated at a table and holding a note in his right hand von James Leakey im September 2002 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus.
