Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A lady believed to be Mrs. Anne Reading, facing left in low-cut white dress with blue sash, a pale blue stole over her shoulders, her hair in ringlets by James Leakey was sold in the Objects of Vertu, Miniatures and Icons auction at Christies in London in May 2001. It changed hands for a price of GBP 587.50 (€ 984.96) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Admittedly, works by James Leakey have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lieutenant-Colonel W. George Collier, facing right in scarlet coat of the Coldstream Guards, with gold bordered blue collar and facings, gold epaulettes, white cross sash with gilt-metal oval plate, white shirt and black stock, curling light brown ha in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,780.00 (€ 6,869.12).
