This artwork by James Gillray achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in December 2021. In the Prints and Multiples auction, the work Tentanda via est qua me quoque possim tollere humo - Virgil, Geor: sold for GBP 3,570.00 (€ 4,258.26) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Gillray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work ‘Consequences Of A Successful French Invasion... Or... We Fly On The Wings Of The Wind To Save The Irish Catholics From Persecution’ in March 2018 with an auction result of GBP 47,500.00 (€ 54,081.37).

In der Auktion Prints and Multiples wurde die Arbeit Tentanda via est qua me quoque possim tollere humo - Virgil, Geor: für GBP 3.570,00 (€ 4.258,26) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 1.200,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Gillray erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit ‘Consequences Of A Successful French Invasion... Or...
