In the Prints and Multiples auction, the work An Excrescence;-a Fungus;-alias-a Toadstool upon a Dung-hill.; The Bottomless-Pitt sold for GBP 1,657.50 (€ 1,977.05) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 700.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Gillray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work ‘Consequences Of A Successful French Invasion... Or... We Fly On The Wings Of The Wind To Save The Irish Catholics From Persecution’ in March 2018 with an auction result of GBP 47,500.00 (€ 54,081.37).
