In November 2013 Christies in London held the auction Maritime Art, which included the work The Opening Engagement Of The Spanish-American War (1898): The Flagship Of Admiral George Dewey, The U.S.S. Olympia Leading The United States Asiatic Squadron Into Action Against The Spanish Pacific Squadron, During The Battle Of Manila Bay, Philippi by James Gale Tyler. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 13,537.87) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Gale Tyler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work New York Yacht Club Racing Boats In New York Harbor in November 2015 with an auction result of USD 162,500.00 (€ 153,853.44).
