Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jacob van Es could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2016 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings & 19th Century European Art auction, the work Still Life With A Basket Of Fruit And A Squirrel, Glasses, And A Cut Melon On A Tabletop changed hands for USD 17,500.00 (€ 16,155.83) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Admittedly, works by Jacob van Es have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Still Life With A Fish On A Terracotta Plate, Bunches Of Asparagus, Artichokes And Cherries In A Scalloped Dish, Together With Half A Cheese In A Basket, Bread Rolls, Fraises De Bois, Lemons, Oranges And Crabs All Arranged On A Table Top in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 91,250.00 (€ 104,723.03).
