This artwork by J. Sultan Ali achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in March last year. In the Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction, the work Milk Maids sold for USD 35,280.00 (€ 31,803.84) - well above the upper estimate of USD 20,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by J. Sultan Ali; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Vanraj-Nandi sold at auction in March 2021 with the realized price of USD 47,880.00 (€ 40,773.23).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 76 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von J. Sultan Ali erzielte im März letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art wurde die Arbeit Milk Maids für USD 35.280,00 (€ 31.803,84) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 20.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von J. Sultan Ali; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Vanraj-Nandi im März 2021 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 47.880,00 (€ 40.773,23).
