Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2000 Christies in London held the auction Exploration & Travel with Visions of India, which included the work Mr Muir's House at Chowringhee, Calcutta (illustrated); and Bungalow at Comidpore, on the river Hooghly by Hubert Cornish. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,555.97) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Hubert Cornish have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lady Teignmouth's Garden House on the banks of the Hooghly, Calcutta. in September 2000 with an auction result of GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,813.74).
