Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Hindu village called Commercolly, with two Hindu temples on the bank (illustrated); and A group of Mango tress in blossom on the river Cobaduck in the Sunderbunds by Hubert Cornish was sold in the Exploration & Travel with Visions of India auction at Christies in London in September 2000. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,505.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Hubert Cornish have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in September 2000 the work Lady Teignmouth's Garden House on the banks of the Hooghly, Calcutta. was auctioned for GBP 6,462.50 (€ 10,813.74).
