Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work Polyphemus and Galatea; The Judgment of Paris by Herman van Swanevelt for USD 35,280.00 (€ 30,540.17). This price was achieved in the auction Collector, Dealer, Connoisseur: The Vision of Richard L. Feigen at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Herman van Swanevelt - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An Italianate landscape with a drover, cattle and washer women, a bridge and a hill top temple beyond, which sold at auction in March 2000 for GBP 43,300.00 (€ 72,009.88).
