Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2016 a collector was able to acquire the work An Italianate Landscape, With Figures Walking In The Foreground (Morning) by Herman van Swanevelt for USD 5,000.00 (€ 4,615.95). This price was achieved in the auction Master Drawings at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Herman van Swanevelt achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Italianate landscape with a drover, cattle and washer women, a bridge and a hill top temple beyond in March 2000 with an auction result of GBP 43,300.00 (€ 72,009.88).
