Stock' (on an old label attached to the backboard) pencil and watercolour heightened with bodycolour on paper 13 1 ⁄ 8 x 9 1 ⁄ 4 in. (33.3 x 23.5 cm.)

This price was achieved in the auction The Isabel Goldsmith Collection: Selected Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist Art at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Henry John Stock have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Uplifting of Psyche 'By the help of a divinity not our own' - Virgil in June 2015 with an auction result of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 79,311.79).
