Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Robert Bruce, 1St Earl Of Ailesbury And 2Nd Earl Of Elgin (1626-1685) Wearing Roman Armour by Henri Gascars was sold in the Old Master & Early British Paintings auction at Sothebys in London in April 2011. It changed hands for a price of GBP 18,750.00 (€ 21,115.73) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Henri Gascars have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Jacques De Goyon Iii (1644-1725), Sire De Matignon, Comte De Thorigny, Lieutenant Général Des Armées in January 2017 with an auction result of USD 150,000.00 (€ 138,966.09).
