Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of A Gentleman Wearing Armor, Possibly George Legge, 1St Baron Dartmouth by Henri Gascars was sold in the Master Paintings auction at Sothebys in New York in June 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 8,125.00 (€ 7,120.32) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henri Gascars achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Jacques De Goyon Iii (1644-1725), Sire De Matignon, Comte De Thorigny, Lieutenant Général Des Armées in January 2017 with an auction result of USD 150,000.00 (€ 138,966.09).
