GUSTAVE BAUMANN (1881-1971) Madison Square woodcut in colors, on cream laid Zanders paper, 1917, with the artist's ink stamp, numbered in blue ink 33/100, signed in ball-point pen by the artist's wife, Jane H. Auction result well in line with expectations
In August this year Christies in Sydney held the auction Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century, which included the work Madison Square by Gustave Baumann. The price achieved of USD 4,788.00 (€ 4,417.38) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gustave Baumann have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Processional in March this year with an auction result of USD 28,050.00 (€ 25,800.22).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im August diesen Jahres führte Christies in Sydney die Auktion Tales of the City: New York Prints and Photographs of the Early 20th Century durch, in der auch die Arbeit Madison Square von Gustave Baumann zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 4.788,00 (€ 4.417,38) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gustave Baumann auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Processional im März diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 28.050,00 (€ 25.800,22).
