In February 2021 Sothebys in Paris held the auction Unwrapped, Part I: The Hidden World of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, which included the work Variations on Christo’s Valley Curtain by Gordon Matta-Clark. The »bidding war« ended at EUR 44,100.00 47% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gordon Matta-Clark - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pier 52 ( # 4), which sold at auction in October 2016 for GBP 131,000.00 (€ 145,937.97).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 47 % übertroffen
Im Februar 2021 führte Sothebys in Paris die Auktion Unwrapped, Part I: The Hidden World of Christo and Jeanne-Claude durch, in der auch die Arbeit Variations on Christo’s Valley Curtain von Gordon Matta-Clark zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 44.100,00 und damit 47% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Gordon Matta-Clark mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Pier 52 ( # 4) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2016 für GBP 131.000,00 (€ 145.937,97) versteigert wurde.
