In the The Dr Anton C.R.Dreesmann Collection Old Master Pictures auction, the work Phaethon before his father Apollo; Phaethon in the Chariot of the Sun God; The Fall of Phaethon; and The Sisters of Phaethon transformed into Poplars: Illustrations for the Metamorphoses of Ovid sold for GBP 12,925.00 (€ 20,912.31) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Godfried Maes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Four Continents: America, Africa, Europe And Asia, which sold at auction in April 2015 for GBP 40,000.00 (€ 54,929.22).
