Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Giulio Pippi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2021. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work Two Putti on the Back of an Elephant, Study for a Stucco Medallion in the West Lunette on the Vault of the Camera delle Aquile, Palazzo Te sold for USD 37,800.00 (€ 31,149.57) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giulio Pippi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a woman, head and shoulders in March 2021 with an auction result of GBP 378,000.00 (€ 444,052.63).
