Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Giulio Pippi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2019. In the Old Master & British Drawings auction, the work Socrates and a barbarian, hands clasped sold for USD 13,750.00 (€ 12,004.54) - well above the upper estimate of USD 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giulio Pippi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a woman, head and shoulders in March 2021 with an auction result of GBP 378,000.00 (€ 444,052.63).
