This artwork by Giovanni Lanfranco achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January last year. In the Master to Master: The Nelson Shanks Collection auction, the work The Holy Family with the Infant Saint John the Baptist sold for USD 94,500.00 (€ 84,284.69) - well above the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giovanni Lanfranco; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Execution of Saint John the Baptist sold at auction in December 2019 with the realized price of GBP 137,500.00 (€ 162,508.91).
