This artwork by Giovanni Ghisolfi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in February 2005. In the THE SIR RALPH AND LADY HALPERN COLLECTION auction, the work A capriccio of classical ruins with elegant figures and mountains beyond sold for GBP 12,000.00 (€ 17,401.54) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Giovanni Ghisolfi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A capriccio of a Mediterranean port with bandits amongst classical ruins; and A capriccio of a Mediterranean port with a ruined temple and a statue of Hercules, with Orientals and other figures, an encampment beyond in July 2000 with an auction result of GBP 80,750.00 (€ 130,571.69).
