The work The Balcony by Gilbert Spencer was auctioned at Sothebys in London in September 2020. It achieved a price of GBP 23,940.00 (€ 26,397.74), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 60%. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gilbert Spencer; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Man at a sluice gate on the Thames sold at auction in March 2018 with the realized price of GBP 37,500.00 (€ 42,695.82).

Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 23.940,00 (€ 26.397,74) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 60%. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Gilbert Spencer; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Man at a sluice gate on the Thames im März 2018 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 37.500,00 (€ 42.695,82).
