Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Gentlemen watering their horses and washerwomen at a fountain, a peasant playing with a dog, travelers and the Church of St. Pantaleon, Cologne, beyond by Gerrit Berckheyde was auctioned at Christies in New York in January this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 12,600.00 (€ 1 Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerrit Berckheyde achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A view of Haarlem from the northwest corner with the Kruispoort and St. Bavo's Cathedral beyond in December 2010 with an auction result of GBP 2,617,250.00 (€ 3,036,002.11).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Gentlemen watering their horses and washerwomen at a fountain, a peasant playing with a dog, travelers and the Church of St. Pantaleon, Cologne, beyond von Gerrit Berckheyde im Januar diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 12.600,00 (€ 11.604,35) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gerrit Berckheyde erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A view of Haarlem from the northwest corner with the Kruispoort and St. Bavo's Cathedral beyond im Dezember 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 2.617.250,00 (€ 3.036.002,11).
