Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2014 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Laundresses (The Laundress) by George Tooker. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 209,000.00 (€ 153,225.81) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Tooker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Coney Island, which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Mai 2014 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Laundresses (The Laundress) von George Tooker zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 209.000,00 (€ 153.225,81) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von George Tooker mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Coney Island beobachtet, die im Dezember 2002 für USD 427.500,00 (€ 407.725,32) versteigert wurde.
