In November 2018 Christies in New York held the auction An American Place | The Barney A. Ebsworth Collection Evening Sale, which included the work A Game of Chess by George Tooker. The »bidding war« ended at USD 432,500.00 (€ 381,965.91), 24% above the upper estimate. Other works by George Tooker have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32) in December 2002 for the work Coney Island.
