Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by George Stanfield Walters could be acquired at Christies in London in December 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Watercolours including Original Book auction, the work Shipping in an estuary (illustrated); and Off Port Victoria, Sheerness changed hands for GBP 298.75 (€ 422.81) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Stanfield Walters achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'To sit on rocks, to muse o'er flood and fell This is not solitude! 'tis but to hold Converse with Nature's charms, and view her stores unrolled.' in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 8,812.50 (€ 13,968.90).
