Auction result misses estimated price range

In May 2012 a collector was able to acquire the work Brig bearing up for Folkestone by George Stanfield Walters for GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,557.45). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime Art at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 4,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by George Stanfield Walters have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'To sit on rocks, to muse o'er flood and fell This is not solitude! 'tis but to hold Converse with Nature's charms, and view her stores unrolled.' in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 8,812.50 (€ 13,968.90).
