Auction result well in line with expectations
In April last year Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman patron, three-quarter length, seated before a landscape painting by George Morland. The price achieved of GBP 5,040.00 (€ 6,010.02) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Morland achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Fox Inn in June 2003 with an auction result of GBP 53,775.00 (€ 77,277.60).
