A top price for George Morland - as previously expected

In June 2003 Christies in London held the auction British Pictures 1500-1850, which included the work The Fox Inn by George Morland. The price achieved of GBP 53,775.00 (€ 77,277.60) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Fox Inn is the most expensive artwork by George Morland that we have observed at auctions so far.

Im Juni 2003 führte Christies in London die Auktion British Pictures 1500-1850 durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Fox Inn von George Morland zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 53.775,00 (€ 77.277,60) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist The Fox Inn das teuerste Kunstwerk von George Morland, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
