'Lady Gwendoline: "Papa says I'm to be a great artist, & exhibit at the Royal Academy."
Lady Yseulte: "And Papa says I'm to be a great Pianist & play at the Monday Pops.."
Lady Edelgitha: "And I'm going to be a famous Actress & act Ophelia and cut out Miss Ellen Terry! Papa says I may - that is, of course, if I can, you know!"
The new governess: "Good Heavens, young ladies! Is it possible his grace can allow you even to think of such things!! Why, my Papa was only a poor half-pay officer, but he would never have permitted me, during his lifetime, to paint for hire or play in Public! And as for acting Ophelia - Good Heavens! You take my breath away."'

Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2017 a collector was able to acquire the work Removal Of Ancient Landmarks by George du Maurier for GBP 1,625.00 (€ 1,828.70). This price was achieved in the auction Victorian Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by George du Maurier have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'Two Thrones' in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 8,812.50 (€ 14,403.68).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Dezember 2017 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Removal Of Ancient Landmarks von George du Maurier für GBP 1.625,00 (€ 1.828,70) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Victorian Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George du Maurier auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit 'Two Thrones' im November 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 8.812,50 (€ 14.403,68).
