Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A) Militie - A man from the Battara tribe, South Australia (possibly 1844-45) by George French Angas was auctioned at Christies in Melbourne in May 2003. It changed hands for a price of AUD 293,750.00 (€ 162,603.58) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of AUD 250,000.00 – 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George French Angas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Eaglehawk Gully, Bendigo, 1852, which sold at auction in November 2020 for AUD 418,200.00 (€ 350,016.74).

Die Arbeit A) Militie - A man from the Battara tribe, South Australia (possibly 1844-45) von George French Angas kam im Mai 2003 bei Christies in Melbourne zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von AUD 293.750,00 (€ 162.603,58) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von AUD 250.000,00 – 300.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von George French Angas mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Eaglehawk Gully, Bendigo, 1852 beobachtet, die im November 2020 für AUD 418.200,00 (€ 350.016,74) versteigert wurde.
