Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Sledging camp in a blizzard by George Edward Marston was sold in the Exploration and Travel with The Polar Sale auction at Christies in London in September 2005. The price achieved of GBP 9,600.00 (€ 14,088.70) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 9,000.00 – 10,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Edward Marston - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work S.Y. Endurance Trapped In The Ice In The Weddell Sea, which sold at auction in September 2004 for GBP 33,460.00 (€ 48,746.99).
